So what is etiquette?  For many, the word "etiquette" invokes images of someone who is
old-fashioned and/or pretentious.  But etiquette is not about being artificial or better than
everyone else. 

Etiquette is all about behavior.  It is a set of rules and guidelines that govern socially
acceptable behavior within a civilized society.  Whether they are written or unwritten, these
rules and guidelines help us interact with one another - productively and harmoniously - as
we embrace common moral, social and community values in an atmosphere of mutual respect. 

Etiquette is about knowing the right behaviors so that we can maneuver through any
situation with confidence and ease. 
In doing so, we create a co
mfortable environment
where those around us feel important and respected. 

Success comes when we are able to put others at ease and instantly build rapport. 

Valuable relationships can be damaged if we aren't aware of how our behavior affects others. 
Wikipedia notes, "Violations of etiquette, if severe, can cause public disgrace, and in private hurt
individuals feelings, create misunderstandings or real grief and pain, and can even escalate into
murderous rage."

As the world becomes more connected and we interact increasingly with people of other
cultures, the knowing, understanding, and carrying out of proper etiquette is crucial to our
success as business professionals.

No one is born into this world with proper etiquette, superior manners and social graces. 
These are learned skills.  The learning of these skills will enhance your self-confidence and
ability to easily interact with clients, customers, and colleagues.
